Ski Touring and freeride Technique Training afternoon– Flumserberg

16 Dec. 2026 · 13, 20 & 27 Jan. · 3 & 10 Feb. 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

Good ski touring is not only about making nice turns in good snow. In the mountains we need to deal with hard snow, crust, tracked terrain, bumps, heavy snow and constantly changing conditions. These Wednesday afternoon sessions at Flumserberg from 13.30-16.15 focus specifically on the skiing skills needed for ski touring. Using the pistes and easily accessible off-piste terrain, we can deliberately look for different snow conditions, repeat exercises and work on specific techniques — something that is often difficult to do during a normal ski tour. We train with ski-touring equipment, working on balance, short turns, speed control, variable snow and efficient skiing with a backpack. We also use the terrain to understand snow conditions, equipment and some of the movement techniques specific to ski touring. We meet in Tannenboden at 13.20. Flumserberg is easily accessible from Zurich by public transport, making the afternoon format particularly convenient without the need for a car.

Ski Touring Introduction Day

5–6 December 2026

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

Your first step into independent ski touring. This two-day course is designed for skiers who are comfortable on red pistes and have already had some basic experience skiing off-piste, but are new to ski touring. During two ski tours we introduce the essential skills needed to move safely and efficiently in winter terrain. We look at ski-touring equipment and how to use it, practise basic uphill techniques and transitions, and introduce the fundamentals of snow, avalanche awareness and companion rescue, including the use of avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. The objective is not simply to complete a tour, but to give you a practical first understanding of how ski touring works — from equipment and movement to basic safety and decision making. If snow conditions allows, we will be staying in a hut overnight.

Participation is possible for the full weekend or for a single day. Saturday – Snow & Avalanche Safety Avalanche bulletin, avalanche problems, snow and terrain assessment, route planning, group management and practical use of transceiver, probe and shovel. One-Day Ski Tours from Zurich

December 2026–March 2027 · Saturdays or Mondays

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

The best ski tour is often the one with the best conditions. Let's go for a one-day ski tour from Zurich, with the destination selected according to the current snow, weather and avalanche conditions (Davos, Glarus, Central Switzerland, Bedretto). Rather than fixing the itinerary weeks in advance, we choose from a wide range of destinations across the Swiss Alps. This allows us to look for good snow, suitable terrain and an objective that matches the level of the group. Tours typically involve 800–1,200 m of ascent and are aimed at skiers with some previous ski-touring experience who are comfortable skiing variable snow away from prepared pistes.

Location Selected according to conditions · approx. 1-2 hours from Zurich
Duration 1 day
Participants 3–6 participants
Level Intermediate · Previous ski-touring experience recommended
Price CHF 200 p.p. (3) · CHF 150 p.p. (4–6)
Additional information Typically 800–1,200 m ascent. Meeting in the Zurich area or directly at the starting point. Complete ski-touring and avalanche safety equipment required.

Julier Pass – Tschima da Flix Ski Touring Weekend

2–3 January 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A classic two-day hut tour in the Albula Alps of Graubünden. On day one we start from the Julier Pass and climb Piz Surgonda (3,195 m) before descending to the Jenatsch Hut, our base for the night. On day two we climb Tschima da Flix (3,301 m), then enjoy a long descent of 1,700 m to Sur in the Surses valley. If snow or avalanche conditions are not suitable in this area, I will choose an equivalent tour elsewhere.

Itinerary
Day 1: Julier Pass – Piz Surgonda 3,195 m – Jenatsch Hut SAC · ↑ 1,100 m ↓ 700 m
Day 2: Jenatsch Hut – Tschima da Flix 3,301 m – Sur · ↑ 800 m ↓ 1,700 m

Location Julier Pass / Jenatsch Hut, Graubünden
Meeting point Zurich area or along the way, car-sharing possible
Duration 2 days / 1 night
Participants 3–6 participants
Level Intermediate · max. 1,100 m ascent per day · previous ski-touring experience, confident in variable snow

Additional information Not included: hut with half board (approx. CHF 90–110), transport, the guide's expenses (shared). Full ski-touring equipment with avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Booking deadline: 21 December 2026.

Alpi Marittime – Val Maira & Val Stura Ski Touring

20–24 February 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

Five days of ski touring in the quiet valleys of western Piedmont, far from the big ski resorts. Depending on snow conditions and group size, we stay in Marmora or Acceglio (Val Maira) or in Sambuco (Val Stura), in a guesthouse with half board. From there we tour every day in the surrounding valleys, choosing the summits with the best snow. Long valleys, open slopes and almost no lifts make this a quiet and authentic side of the Alps. Evenings are as good as the skiing: Occitan valley cuisine with ravioles, Castelmagno cheese and local Piedmont wines in family-run guesthouses.

Programme
Day 1: Travel and arrival at the base, first tour if conditions allow
Days 2–4: Day tours from the base, typically 1,000–1,300 m ascent
Day 5: Last tour and return journey

Location Val Maira (Marmora / Acceglio) or Val Stura (Sambuco), Piedmont, Italy
Meeting point At the base, or along the way from the Zurich area (car-sharing)
Duration 5 days / 4 nights
Participants 3–6 participants
Level Intermediate · 1,000–1,300 m ascent per day · slopes up to 35° · confident in variable off-piste snow

Additional information Not included: accommodation with half board (approx. €80–90 per night), transport, the guide's expenses (shared). Full ski-touring equipment with avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Booking deadline: 16 January 2027.

Zuoz–Davos Ski Touring Weekend

6–7 March 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A two-day ski-touring journey linking the Upper Engadin with the Davos region. The terrain between Zuoz, the Albula area and Davos offers several possibilities for a point-to-point weekend, including routes through the Kesch region when snow and hut logistics allow. Rather than fixing a summit months in advance, we use the geography of the traverse as the framework and select the most rewarding line for the actual conditions. Expect two proper mountain days, changing landscapes and the satisfaction of travelling on skis from one valley to another rather than returning to the same starting point.

Location Zuoz–Davos
Duration 2 days
Participants 3–6 participants
Level Intermediate · Previous ski-touring experience recommended
Price CHF 400 p.p. (3) · CHF 300 p.p. (4–6)

Tour du Ciel – Valais

31 March–4 April 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

The Tour du Ciel is a demanding five-day ski-mountaineering traverse through the high Valais, traditionally linking the Zermatt area with Zinal. The journey crosses a succession of glaciers and high passes, with possible nights around Schönbiel, Mountet, Arpitetta and Tracuit depending on the final direction and hut availability. Daily stages can reach around 1,500 m of ascent and require efficient movement in glaciated terrain. This is a genuine high-alpine journey rather than a collection of day tours: the exact stages and alternatives are adjusted to snow, weather, glacier conditions and the strength of the group.

Location Valais
Duration 5 days / 4 nights
Participants 3–5 participants
Level Advanced · Previous ski-touring experience and good fitness required
Price CHF 1,000 p.p. (3) · CHF 750 p.p. (4–5)
Additional information Huts, transport, lifts and personal expenses are not included unless stated otherwise. Programme subject to mountain conditions.

Cevedale & Gran Zebrù – Branca Hut Ski Touring

10–13 April 2027

Four days based at the Branca Hut in the Ortles-Cevedale group, one of the finest spring ski-touring bases in the Central Alps. From the hut we have access to a remarkable range of high-altitude objectives, with Cevedale as a natural highlight and other possibilities towards Palon de la Mare, San Matteo and the surrounding glacier summits. Staying at one hut gives us the freedom to choose the best objective each morning according to snow, weather and group level. Expect substantial alpine days, glacier travel and long ski descents in a landscape dominated by the great peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale massif.

Location Branca Hut / Cevedale–Gran Zebrù, Italy

Participants 3–5 participants
Level Intermediate to Advanced · Good fitness and previous ski-touring experience required
Price CHF 800 p.p. (3) · CHF 600 p.p. (4–5)

Ski Touring in the Lyngen Alps & Tromsø

25 April–1 May 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A full week of ski touring in Northern Norway, exploring the Lyngen Alps and the mountains around Tromsø. Here the itinerary is deliberately flexible: weather, wind and snow can vary strongly from one fjord to the next, so each morning we choose the area offering the best combination of visibility, snow quality and safe terrain. Depending on conditions, tours may range from classic sea-to-summit outings on the Lyngen peninsula to objectives closer to Tromsø or neighbouring islands. The focus is on good skiing and beautiful mountain days rather than ticking off predetermined summits, with local transfers allowing us to move where conditions are best.

Location Lyngen Alps & Tromsø, Norway
Duration 7 days
Participants 3–5 participants
Level Intermediate to Advanced · Previous ski-touring experience required
Price CHF 1,400 p.p. (3) · CHF 1,050 p.p. (4–5)

Monte Rosa Ski Mountaineering – Breithorn, Pollux & Dufourspitze/Nordend

Dates to be announced

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A flexible high-altitude ski-mountaineering programme in the Monte Rosa massif, built around some of the great 4,000-metre peaks of the region. Possible objectives include the Breithorn and Pollux, progressing towards more committing goals such as Nordend or Dufourspitze for a strong, acclimatised group in suitable conditions. The final sequence is intentionally left open: altitude, hut availability, glacier conditions, weather and the group's speed all determine what is realistic. The aim is to build the programme progressively, combining spectacular glacier skiing with genuine mountaineering objectives rather than committing in advance to a summit that conditions may not support.

Location Monte Rosa
Duration Multi-day programme
Participants 3–4 participants
Level Advanced · Previous ski touring, glacier travel and mountaineering experience required
Price From CHF 450 p.p. per day (3) · CHF 350 p.p. per day (4)
Additional information Huts, lifts, transport and personal expenses are not included. Final programme and duration to be confirmed.

Steingletscher & Tierberg Hut – Beginner-Friendly Ski Touring Weekend

15–16 May 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A two-day spring ski-touring weekend from Steingletscher, using the Tierbergli Hut as our alpine base. The first day is dedicated to the ascent towards the hut and to settling into glacier terrain; on the second day, conditions permitting, we can aim for a classic summit such as the Sustenhorn or Gwächtenhorn before skiing back towards Steingletscher. From Tierbergli, both peaks offer relatively accessible glacier itineraries, making this a good progression for tourers who want to move beyond basic day tours. The exact summit is selected according to snow, weather, glacier conditions and the experience of the group.

Location Steingletscher / Tierberg Hut
Duration 2 days / 1 night
Participants 3–6 participants
Level Beginner to Intermediate · Basic ski-touring experience recommended
Price CHF 400 p.p. (3) · CHF 300 p.p. (4–6)

Monte Rosa on Skis – Gnifetti to Margherita Hut

23–24 May 2027

photo-541_singular_display_fullPicture.HEIC

A two-day high-altitude finale to the ski-mountaineering season in the Monte Rosa massif. Using the Gnifetti Hut area as our base, we travel onto the great glaciers above the upper Lys valley and, conditions permitting, aim for the Margherita Hut on Signalkuppe, at 4,554 m, possibly combining the journey with another nearby 4,000-metre summit. This is not technically extreme skiing, but altitude, glacier travel and the length of the day make it a serious alpine undertaking. The final objective is adapted to weather, snow, acclimatisation and group speed, with the emphasis on a memorable last big ski tour of the season.
